Connect.DC is celebrating National Night Out 2012 on Tuesday by opening up OCTO's Connect.DC Mobile Technology Lab at the Anacostia Neighborhood Library.

National Night Out is an annual event, sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, that takes place on the first Tuesday in August. Each year, the Metropolitan Police Department actively coordinates National Night Out in the District by rallying community members to join with their neighbors, community organizations and police officers to come out and get to know one another.

From community cookouts and block parties to open houses and candlelight vigils, DC is gearing up for the 29th annual celebration of “America’s Night Out Against Crime.”

National Night Out is designed to:

* Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
* Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs;
* Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and;
* Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
